Sara & Dane wanted special photos of just the two of them to celebrate 8 years together...and they didn't just want "any other photos," so we headed to the mountains for a beautiful, winter wonderland session in Kananaskis just outside of Calgary. The views and sunshine did not disappoint, and neither did these two. They were just the loveliest couple to get to know - I was honoured they chose me to capture their love, laughter and friendship.

Pick a beautiful mountain backdrop

Spoiler alert: There are SO many beautiful mountain locations near Calgary! From Bragg Creek to Kananaskis and beyond, you will not be disappointed. Some of my favourites include Elbow Falls, Wedge Pond (pictured here) and Barrier Lake. What's beautiful about a mountain backdrop is that it really add that "wow" factor to your photos. And if you love nature, whether a hiker or just an admirer, getting photos done in the mountains tells a story about who you are.

Embrace the winter wonderland vibes

I'm telling you this now, so brace yourself- photos in the mountains can be CHILLY! It's winter after all. And while Calgary may be nice and warm, the mountains are always a little colder and a lot more snowy. Make sure to wear layers and accessorize with knits like toques, scarves and mittens. Puffy vests, shackets and long overcoats are your best bet to embrace the winter vibes. Don't forget to wear appropriate footwear - you may be trudging through some snow during the session!
