"Where's your favourite place in Calgary to take family photos?"

As a photographer, it's a question that gets asked over and over again. Hands down, my favourite spot for family photos is Fish Creek Park. Growing up, friends & family & I spent a lot of time there. Walking, running, exploring...heck, even a few bush parties here & there. I know the park well and I love it and I always recommend it to my clients and here's why.

There's a variety of beautiful places to take family photos within Fish Creek Park

Having grown up with Fish Creek Park basically in my backyard, I know how big it is and how many awesome hidden locations are in the park for taking photos. One end of Fish Creek, namely Shannon Terrace, feels more like rustic, mountain vibes with large spruce trees reaching to the sky and secluded paths, whereas another area has vast fields and magical trees to capture beautiful, playful family photos. Let's not forget the picturesque creekside throughout the entire park that's perfect for photos. And because it's so big, there's no shortage of spots to choose from when capturing families.

I don't know about you, but it's hard to act natural in front of the camera when you've got an audience, and that's why Fish Creek Park is my favourite spot in the city to take family photos. It's SO big and with the right scouting, you can find beautiful locations off the beaten path to take family photos, which allows for much more natural connections & real moments to unfold throughout a session.

Fish Creek Park is very accessible for families of all ages

Because Fish Creek Park is a provincial park, there are numerous roadways, parking lots, paved & unpaved paths, bridges and even public washrooms throughout the park. This makes it very family-friendly for photos. Heck, even Grandma's & Grandpa's can come for the photos - it's just that easy to walk through.
